Citation
Brown, William. "Mastering Online Education." American School Board Journal
194(2007): 40-42.
Summary
The article, “Mastering Online Education” simply discusses the many questions that people ask themselves or schools before enrolling in such a new environment. The first question people are asking is if the students are receiving the proper amount of instructional learning time. And the answer would be yes, teachers post question online and the students must answer the questions and answer any other questions that other students may post. This is actually a more effective way of learning than sitting in a classroom because everyone must participate, not just the one person whom raises their hand in class gets to interact. Another question that seems to be brought up quite frequently is whether or not the teachers are as reliable and creditable as the ones that teach face to face. Yes, the teachers are mostly likely teaching online and classroom’s full of students. Another aspect that the online learning allows is that students are allowed to reflect on situations that are happening in their lives and in the world today. The article clearly states that online education seems to be growing rapidly and especially in the last two years.
Importance
This article is very important for my evaluation because it states how online education is becoming more popular everyday. Another reason that it is important is because it answers the many questions that people are having towards this new type of schooling. People are rather skeptical at first, but once everything is talked out, online education seems to be a great way to be come educated.
Connections
I can connect this to my life because I am taking an online class next semester and it is answering all of the questions that I was wondering about. The question about whether or not a teacher is creditable was one of the main questions that I personally had.
Supporting Sources
I can use this for my paper because it answers the many questions that people may have before jumping into an online class.
Argument SourceIf I were the author I would have gone into greater depth about how often the teachers and students communicate. Another aspect he should have touched is whether or not the students are able to contact the teachers if they have any question pertaining to the class work. It is very important that the students get the help that they need to progress in the future.
