My first year of college has really had a lot of ups and downs and I could always count on my new friends as well as the one that go to different schools to be there for me. This past year I have truly come to understand who my real friends are and who to trust and who not to trust. I have learned a great deal of responsibility and I know that I have learned from peoples mistakes. I have also learned how to manage my time and how to manage it wisely. Also college is nothing like high school simply because if you do not do something then it is as simple as that, it will never get done. I know that next year will be just as tough or even harder than last year but I know that I can handle it. I recently changed my major and my next year classes have a lot to do with my major. I hope that I enjoy my classes and I do not have to change my major again.

Yesterday, my roommate and I moved out of my dorm and we finished our first year of college, it was rather sad. My roommate is not coming back next year she is moving back home and going to UNO. I know that I will see her next year, but I it not going to be the same. We have been friends since Pre-K, and really we really got close this past year. I am also going to miss the other friends that I have made throughout my first year. I had to tell everyone bye but I know that I will see them over the summer. Also me and my cousin have gotten extremely close this year, and she is now moving down the street from me. Although she is family she has probably made one of my best friends. Next year we are living down the hall from one another and I can not wait. I am very sad that this year had to end but I am happy to be home and I can not wait to see all of my friends from LSU!!! I can not wait form next year to start because I know that it will be more fun than last year.

I have taken Math 101 this semester and Math has not always been my best subject and I defiantly struggle with it. The University totally changed the program this semester and now you only go to class once a week and go to the lab for the three hours a week. You have a teacher stand in front of a class for one hour and then you must attend the lab where teachers walk around helping you with particular problems. Many would think that this would be a better way to teach because there is more one on one help, but I had a hard time because I could not physically see what the teachers in the lab were trying to explain. All of the many teachers taught the problem differently. Also you were expected to take your test, quizzes, and homework on the computer. It took me awhile to understand how to type all of the answers in correctly, but after awhile it became very easy. I have always done my time in the lab but I was just not grasping the concept of what I was supposed to be learning at the time. I did okay on my first two test and then I made A’s on the last two tests. Now my total average was an 89.2% which meant I had a B, but I still had to take the exam. I new I must study very hard because I wanted an A. Well, the exam was cumulative and it was now hand written instead of on the computer so this was to my best advantage because now you were able to receive particle credit. Well I checked my grade and I received an 86 on my exam. The best part is that your exam grade replaces your lowest test score, which mine was a C, so I am getting an A in the class!!!!! I was very excited and all of my hard work paid off.

Brown, William. "Mastering Online Education." American School Board Journal
194(2007): 40-42.
Summary
The article, “Mastering Online Education” simply discusses the many questions that people ask themselves or schools before enrolling in such a new environment. The first question people are asking is if the students are receiving the proper amount of instructional learning time. And the answer would be yes, teachers post question online and the students must answer the questions and answer any other questions that other students may post. This is actually a more effective way of learning than sitting in a classroom because everyone must participate, not just the one person whom raises their hand in class gets to interact. Another question that seems to be brought up quite frequently is whether or not the teachers are as reliable and creditable as the ones that teach face to face. Yes, the teachers are mostly likely teaching online and classroom’s full of students. Another aspect that the online learning allows is that students are allowed to reflect on situations that are happening in their lives and in the world today. The article clearly states that online education seems to be growing rapidly and especially in the last two years.
Importance
This article is very important for my evaluation because it states how online education is becoming more popular everyday. Another reason that it is important is because it answers the many questions that people are having towards this new type of schooling. People are rather skeptical at first, but once everything is talked out, online education seems to be a great way to be come educated.
Connections
I can connect this to my life because I am taking an online class next semester and it is answering all of the questions that I was wondering about. The question about whether or not a teacher is creditable was one of the main questions that I personally had.
Supporting Sources
I can use this for my paper because it answers the many questions that people may have before jumping into an online class.
Argument SourceIf I were the author I would have gone into greater depth about how often the teachers and students communicate. Another aspect he should have touched is whether or not the students are able to contact the teachers if they have any question pertaining to the class work. It is very important that the students get the help that they need to progress in the future.

Wildavsky, Ben. "Want more from high school?." U.S. News & World Report.
131(2001): 1-3.
Summary
The article, “Want more from high school” simply discusses how states are changing the school environments. Online high schools came about for the people juggling a busy schedule. Online schooling is very laid back and allows the students to complete their work whenever the time permits. In the beginning the online high schools were only fifty percent effective. The schools made changes regarding the communication between the students and teachers. The online schools require that the teachers are near their computers or phones so their students can ask questions concerning questions that they do not understand. Critics as well as students and parents got together and discussed some of the pros and cons with reference to the basic school environment and interaction amongst their peers. Many parents said that the online schooling is not for everyone. It is a great idea for students that are motivated and can stay on top of their work.
Importance
Designing online high schools help students that want an education, but may have many other priorities. It can fit into any students schedule and it also does not exempt teachers from a job. Education is probably the most important thing someone can receive in life and being a teacher who can teach is priceless. The world needs good teachers and it is a good thing that online education does not exempt teachers from the equation. It is also very important that the online high school recognized where there was failure and immediately fixed the problem. Considering there is not face to face communication it is imperative that the teachers are available between certain hours to discuss things that the students may be struggling with. This shows that there is room for growing and expanding. Also discussed in the article, is the fact that online high schooling is not cut out for everyone. It is important to see if you are the right person for this type of schooling and if not it is best to pick another route. The overall bad idea is that students miss out on the whole social aspect of high school, football games, fun memories, dances and many more things that high school entails. The overall good thing about online schooling is that it gives those who do not always have the time but have the will power to make a difference in their lives.
Connection
I am taking math 101 and it is fifty minutes one day a week in a class room with a teacher, where she physically teaches the material. Then I am responsible for completing three hours or more a week in math lab where I do my homework, quizzes and test if any are scheduled that week. In the lab there are teachers that come around help students that may not understand a specific problem. You can also get the computer to walk you through a problem. I like the half online learning and half in the class room learning, because it allows a lot of face to face explaining. Last semester I look an online music course. This was very hard for me because I did not know anything about music and I did not have anyone physically their telling me to listen for this pitch and the melody and all of the other things that music pertains to.
Supporting Source
The article supports my argument because it is evaluating the online education. It states that their were problems and they were fixed as well as it provides convenience for many people.
Argumentative Source
The author could have gone into more depth about what corrections were made to increase the betterment for online education.

Last week I changed my major from Nursing to Dietetics. I am very excited about this change because I think that it is for the better. Dietetics is a wide field that offers many job opportunities. With this major you can work in a hospital or a school or with children. I think that it is a good major because the world is extremely health conscience. I am also excited because it poses opportunities to work with children. I love children and to work with them to fix their problems whether it be obesity or not eating enough or not eating correctly, would make all of this schooling worth while. I made my schedule for next year and I am very happy I only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursday and my lab on Wednesdays. The days that I have off will give me a great opportunity to work on my homework considering I am talking two hard courses. The two courses that I am worried about are English 203 and Anatomy 251. I am nervous about English because it is a lot of reading and I do not like to read unless it is something that interests me. Anatomy is going to be a lot of studying but I need to make use of my free time and it will work out fine. I am very excited about next year with my schedule and my new roommate!!!

I had a very relaxing Easter weekend. I went home on Thursday and just hung out with my mom and dad. On Friday I had errands to run, and my family from Houston was in town so I took my younger cousin with me and it was fun talking to her. That night I went to my friend Chase’s house and I saw all of my friends that I do not go to school with and many other friends that I never got to see. It was a lot of fun to see everyone and talking about what everyone is doing for summer and making plans for summer vacations. Since my family is from Jackson and Houston we celebrated Easter Saturday, we had a crawfish boil at my house and it was a lot of fun. Then Sunday, was very relaxing because I went to church and studied for my big test that I have this week. I truly enjoyed this weekend and I Can't wait for summer to come!!!!

This is going rather stressful week for me regarding school. I have a Biology test on Thursday and a History test on Wednesday. I need to make at least a B on each test to pull up my average. These are both rather hard classes that I need to do well in. Today was every eventful. I had an hour drive this morning from Slidell to Hattiesburg and when I got to school I could not find a parking spot, so I parked in Bond and then walked to my class. I was finished class by 2 and then I went to the Johnson Science Tower where I was supposed to meet up with my Biology professor and he did not show up. So I then walked back to my dorm to apply for housing and my roommate and I found out that you do not need to reapply until April 30th. I then went to the library to copy notes for my history test and then walked back to my dorm to give my roommate her notes back and now I am writing my blogs. I hope this week settles down, but I am sure that it won’t. Following this stressful week is going to be a fun and eventful weekend.

My paper is going pretty well with some minor problems. The length is the only problem that i truly need to work on but it is fixable. I need to do more research which will lengthen the paper. In my introduction i need to been define my thesis. I also need to state the soultion of the problem throughout the paper. I need to make sure that the paper stays in the same tense. I need to further discuss net and search neutrality so the reader fully understands that major point made in the paper. I need to go into more depth which will add the length that i need. I need to research and find at least one or two more sites.

Reading Response
Dvorak, John C. “A Threat to Web Search.” PC Magazine 26 (2007).
Summary
In the article, “A Threat to Web Search” states about future tasks that search engines plan to do. It says that the search engines, later along the way might file information according to which search engine pays the most money, not by the site that supplies the most accurate information. This is what people predicted will happen later to come. Google is the most neutral site, it does not alter the sites, it orders them by the site the provides the best information. Finally it talks about how people want net neutrality. Now that aspect was discussed, people need to think about search neutrality.
Importance
This article, is very important for students and anyone else that plans on doing any type of research now or in the near future. Search engines may change and people need to be more careful while researching a topic. After reading the article, “A Threat to Web Search”, I have come to the conclusion that Google is one of the best search engines to use, as of now. If the search engines begin posting information in this way it will twist information that people are trying to research about. Soon, supposing that this will come into affect, the Google, Wikipedia, and any other search engine will be albe to use for accurate information. People will have to depend on other sources, such as online libraries or books. The convince of looking things up in your own home and not dirving somewhere will now be eliminated. These large search engines need not to think of themselves alone, but the interest of the people considering that is who uses the data bases.
Connections
This article pertains to topics that have been discussed in mostly all of my classes when I had a major research paper to do. I would connect it to my last semester English class, we had a research paper and the each student was only allowed one internet source. The other five sources need to come from the library or the online library. My teacher did this to make sure that the information that we found was scholarly. She did not want the paper to be opinionated, rather factual. This also connects to my career path, one day I will have to research information and write a paper before I can graduate. Now, if I were to research something and the information did not come from a reputable site I could possibly not get my degree. This is why it is very important to know where the information is coming from and maybe keep researching and not stop after the first time, to make sure the information found is correct.
Supporting Sources
I could use this article because it talks about how information will be ordered, not by correct information, but by, which search engines pays the most money to be on the top. And as of now Google is neutral, but can change at anytime. For the most part this article supports my paper, but this would not be the only source that I will use.
Argument Source
I think that this author well discusses his topic, although I think that he could have gone in to greater explanation. He needed to explain more on other search engines besides Google.

Blog 6 Reading Review

Atterman, Doug. "beyond Wikipedia." 34(2006): 1-6.
Summary
In the article, “beyond Wikipedia”, explains the pros and cons of using wiki sites and tells who the specific site is designed by. These newly used sites, for example, Wikipedia, allow users to add information at any time. While adding information the person who is making corrections does not need to know about HTML coding. Wikis are an educational tool that are uncensored before and while they are on the web. These wiki sites are being widely used by teacher and librarians and students. The main priority for the people using these sites are for educational purposes. The classes that are utilizing this source are gathering information from group discussions and other information on the web. Teachers may make a site for his or her particular class, and the students in that class can go on the wiki site and add information that they have found or their input on the topic. Another aspect that wiki sites have is a discussion board. On the discussion board people are allowed to add their opinion to the topic or just reflect.
Importance
The problem that researchers run into when using wiki sites are that, the people putting the information on the site is that the site is free from HTML codes. This means that just about anyone can who has the knowledge for computers and those without the knowledge are still able to put information on the site. The fact of the non coding allows anyone to perform this task of putting information on the internet. Another problem with Wikipedia is that the information viewed on the internet has not yet been reviewed or scanned for false information. This can put a person in a dilemma when researching because the researcher may not know that this source is actually reliable. Anyone can put their opinion on Wikipedia and someone may come along and not know it is someone’s opinion and use the information as a fact. Also, when classes post their discussions online for everyone to view, the information discussed amongst the group maybe false. This is where we keep coming up with the conclusion that these wiki sites especially Wikipedia are opinionated and loosely developed. People, classes, or teachers are always changing the information and updating the information. This means that this online encyclopedia is always changing it never remains constant. This could be a problem because, when doing research the information is constanly changing. A researcher wants reliable information for a well thought out paper. After reading this article I have come to the conclusion that wiki sites, such as Wikipedia are well liked for teacher and student communication, but never a good source for research.
Connections
This connects to my work that I have previously run across in my first year of college. Before this year I did not know what Wikipedia was let alone that it was an unreliable source. Last semester, my teacher would always preach to the class that Wikipedia was not a reliable, and to receive full credit it was not allowed as a source. I have always wondered why it was not a fully credited source, and this was one idea that drove me to want to write my paper on unreliable resources.
Supporting Sources
I could use this source for my paper because it first states that the website itself is not coded which means it is accessible for someone to change. The information on the site is constantly changing which means that it is not a steady site. Most importantly the information on the website was not scanned before or after it was released on the site. This brings me to the point where with these three things stated, how can these wiki sites be accurate.
Argument Source I think that this author well discusses his topic, although I think that he could have gone in to greater explanation on other sites that express false information on them. I only say this, because the title is “beyond Wikipedia”, he should have talked about how researchers need to go beyond Wikipedia for sources for an accurate paper.

I am sitting in my room contemplating on what to write about, but yet nothing comes to mind. I have the hardest time with free writing, many people may think that it is easy to write about whatever comes to mind, but that is what I struggle with. I rather someone give me topic of what to write about, because the thoughts come more natural to me. My favorite things to write about are topics that are passionate to me. When I write about things that I love, the paper turns out better compared to a paper that does not interest me as much. I find myself struggling with writings that are free and mostly it is hard for me to write about things that do not interest me at all. In high school I wrote many papers and they were mostly topics of my choice. I have learned to enjoy writing and especially about things that I truly care about.

I had a lot of fun over the break and now I am not sure if I am ready to be back at school. I already miss sleeping in my bed, and taking showers without shower shoes. It is going to be a good week because it is two days shorter than a normal week, and some of my classes were canceled. But on the other side I am glad to see everyone back at school. I am going home on Thursday evening and coming back to school Thursday night, because I have to go get my phone. While at one of the parades, my phone was broken. The company is sending me a new phone and I have to go home and get it for the weekend. I am looking forward to this weekend because my friend from LSU is coming down here to visit and on Sunday I am going home because it is My Grandpa’s birthday and we are going out to eat. We are going to Sal and Judy’s which is my favorite restaurant. I can not wait for this weekend!!!

Mardi Gras holidays this year did not work out the way I planned by overall it went well. It was more relaxing this year than any other year. I mostly went to the parades with my family and later meet up with my friends. I was happy to have seen all of my friends from high school and some people that I go to school with now. I went to Endymion, which is my favorite parade, while I was there I got sick and later that night I began to feel better. Also at the parade it was so cold that I hardly saw the parade because I sat in a chair wrapped in a blanket. While I was sitting down I was not paying attention and I was hit in the face with a pair of beads. Considering the temperature, it stung, because it was so cold. I went to Orpheus, for the first time and saw Sean Peyton! We then left the parade early and went to Houston’s which is a restaurant in Metairie. I did not go to any parades on Mardi Gras day because I had a test on Wednesday that I needed to study for. The break was very short but very relaxing. My sister came home for the weekend so I was able to spend time with her, which was a lot of fun.

I am having trouble coming up with more ideas... I am comparing 7th heaven and Samuel. I have compared the points of how people do not always take control in thier lives and how people need to take the initiative and help others out. I compared Eric in 7th heaven and the woman on the train who told the boys to sit down and only two out of the four sat down.
